A WOOD NETSUKE OF A RECUMBENT HORSEWood netsuke. Japan, first half of 19th centuryA very perceptive depiction of a recumbent horse (uma) with its slender head raised. It would appear as this netsuke was worn by someone born in the Year of the Horse. It should be Note:d that in Japan, there was a small breed with a shoulder height up to 120 cm. Good hand patina, large himotoshi on the underside between the legs.
