观音菩萨在古印度佛教中为男子形象，流传到中国后，随着菩萨信仰的深入人心及其对世人而言所具有的深切的人情味，便逐渐转为温柔慈祥的女性形象。持经观音为三十三观音之一，呈游戏坐姿，席地而坐。梳发髻，面相清秀，身姿轻盈。上身着圆领上衣，着高腰长裙。一手扶膝，一手持经卷。神情闲适安详，流畅自然。木质古韵，通体浓郁古朴。
