玉璧主体为圆形，中间圆孔不大。正背面内外边缘随形雕刻边线，璧身满饰蒲纹。两侧出廓雕刻双凤纹样。长身，头顶出长翎，身下长尾卷垂。此玉璧使凤鸟与蒲纹的搭配更为和谐，且加工精致。从样式上判断，此器应作为祭祀用品，古代玉器均为王公贵族所使用，此件西汉出廓玉佩，无论刻工、主题，均不平凡，佩带者应具有很高的社会地位。《说文》称：“璧圆象天”，《周礼》则有“以苍璧礼天”之说。这说明璧之圆形是仿“天圆”而作。其功能主要用于祭天的礼器，另外也有辟邪或是等级与财富的象征。
