该件玉蝉以简练挺劲的“汉八刀”勾勒出高额、突眼、宽颈、翅翼等。造型准确，写实性强。身部厚实，边缘渐落。腹下皮纹横线条冲破竖线条，线头见锋。皮纹数道。雕工极其规整，线条凝练挺拔，推么技巧颇见功底，蝉身平洁，这种玉蝉盛行于西汉晚期至东汉，多用作敛葬中含玉，放置于死者口中，取其清高绝俗、复活再生的意义。犹豫时间久远，经年累月，玉蝉周身已经遍及赤红沁色，略有白斑闪烁其间，呈现出又一种令人琢磨的历史年代感。
