Columbia BI Graphophone. The beautiful gold plated gramophone was made circa 1905. It features a handsomely carved solid oak cabinet. The metal pieces are gold-plated brass, including the oversize morning glory style horn. Powered by a double spring hand crank motor, with 10 inch turntable, it can play many records on one winding. Made in Connecticut, USA at the Columbia Graphophone Factory. Columbia was founded by the family of the inventor of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell, and was one of the big three gramophone companies (along with Edison and Victor); it is the forerunner of today’s Columbia Pictures and CBS Television. Cabinet is 13“ wide, 13” deep, Horn is 22” long, and 21” wide at its maximum point. .
