蟋蟀好胜，永远有不可一世的气概，被誉为“天下第一虫”，“蟀”又与“帅”谐音，称为“大帅”，因此玉雕中蟋蟀多有富贵之意。这件由碧玉雕就的俏色香插，则是香道妙品，以近似于立体雕手法在香插口沿处雕琢一只蟋蟀，尤其是蟋蟀的须子由实到虚的过渡，尤为精妙，有灵动之感。在雕刻工艺上，也是精致细腻，蟋蟀皆雕刻写实，动感十足，逼真生动，充满情趣。作品动静结合，大面积留白，既给了蟋蟀活动空间，也给了观者无限的想象空间。作者在香插造型上也是颇具匠心，为圆形，束腰，圆润饱满，古雅大方，传达出亲近自然、远离尘嚣的清静闲适，为文房妙品。杨光：中国玉石雕刻大师。
