Prof. James P. Holcombe, J.E. Williams, ed. (Richmond, MacFarlane & Fergusson, 1859), first edition, ex-Yale University library, disbound, front cover absent, 10" x 7". 2) Black and White; Or, The Heart, Not the Face, Jane Dunbar Chaplin (American Tract Society, Boston, 1863), first edition, illustrations engraved and signed by William J. Pierce, original blind stamped publisher's cloth, faded gilt on spine, 174 pages. 3) Narrative of the Sufferings of Lewis and Milton Clarke, Sons of a Soldier of the Revolution, During a Captivity of More Than Twenty Years Among the Slaveholders of Kentucky, One of the So-Called Christian States of America, Lewis and Milton Clark, (Bela Marsh, Boston, 1846), with portrait plate of Milton Clarke, text complete, missing frontispiece portrait of Lewis and title page, original publisher's purple cloth with ornate blindstamping on both covers, title in gilt on spine and upper board, 144 pages, 6 1/4" x 4 1/4". 4) The Negro Problem Solved, Or, Africa As She Was, As She Is, And As She Shall Be: Her Curse and Her Cure, Rev. Hollis Read, (A.A. Constantine, New York, 1864), first edition, bound in original decorative cloth, stamped in blind and gilt, illlustrated, previous owner's inscription, faint dampstaining on last 100 pages, cloth on both boards wrinkled, worn edges, cloth split at joints, 418 pages, 7 1/2" x 5". 5) Black Mammy: A Southern Romance, William Lightfoot Visscher, (H.J. Smith, Chicago, 1897), William Visscher was an African-American writer, 15 illustrations by Thomas J. Nicholl, pictorial cloth stamped in black, red and gilt, gift insciption on fly leaf, 103 pages, 8" x 5 1/2".
