吴养木名彭，号小鋗，1921年9月生于浙江嘉兴，浙江石门人（今属桐乡市崇福镇）。1943年毕业于复旦大学经济系，后在上海中国银行国库局任职。1958年苏州工艺美术专科学校成立。先生应聘执教于该校，并任绘画专业组组长，为培植艺术人才辛苦工作。1969年，工艺美校改为普通中学（即苏州34中），先生改任高中英语教师。1972年，调苏州市文化创作室，从事国画创作。1978年苏州国画馆恢复，为该馆画师。1981年，苏州国画馆升格为苏州国画院，出任副院长。1990年，任苏州国画院院长，1995年任名誉院长。|
