在早期佛像雕塑中，佛、菩萨台座下方常见胡人或力士托举的形象。随着时代变迁，此种下蹲托举的胡人也常见于其它佛教雕塑或建筑之上，成为重要的相关元素。如建成于五世纪后半期的云冈石窟第七窟，石壁上浮雕身材魁梧的胡人托举塔形佛龛。而后朝建造的佛塔，亦常见胡人或站立或半跪于塔基，托举塔身，以示其力大无穷，可保佛塔永固。
拍品以胡人托塔为题材，为元代继承前述传统而制作的随身佩饰。胡人虬髯浓密，袒胸露腹，单腿跪地，托举佛塔。雕工简洁古朴，每层塔檐打洼规整，琢磨细致。上下贯穿天地孔，可穿绳挂佩。
