Chinese 18 or early 19 Century Gilt Silver oval tube-shaped Container with hinge and button opening, possibly exported for use as a French Necessaire; the design is of Scholars and Immortals in Gardens and Pavilions; tiny indistinct hallmark to mouth edge, possibly an European import mark; base flat, cover with berries & vines and oval center cartouche for engraving. Total weight 82 grams. Good condition with light age related wear to gilding and exposed silver. Height 4 3/4 inches (12 cm.) X oval width 2 inches (5 cm.).
