Count Fyodor Petrovich Tolstoy (Russian, 1783-1873), ten (10) octagonal plaster cast medallion plaques, depicting allegorical scenes commemorating the victorious campaign against Napoleon, relief in white on a blue ground, dated 1817-1825, 8" W. Fyodor Petrovich Tolstoy was born in St. Petersburg and entered the Naval Corps where his potential became apparent. He studied sculpture under Professor Prokofiev and the artist Kiprensky gave guidance to his drawings of plaster cast from antique models. His first bas reliefs based on classical science were done in 1806 and he was appointed in 1810 as a designer of medals for the St. Petersburg Mint. Provenance: estate of an important collector, Palm Springs, California.
