此臂搁以紫檀为材，精雕而成。臂搁造型为书卷形，主体纹饰为荷塘蜻蜓，场面生动有趣，惟妙惟肖。臂搁为文房用具一种，又名“秘搁”。普遍为片状，写字时可置于肘下，以免将写过的字弄脏。宋代文献中已有臂搁使用的记载，目前发现的古代臂搁多为竹、木、牙、玉等材质。
