佛珠是佛教弘法最为方便的法器。而记数则是他最基本的功能之一。佛教认为，佛珠是“引接普遍根基，牵课修业之具也”。平日念佛、持咒、诵经时，都会在每念诵一句的佛号或咒语时，波动手中的一颗珠粒，如此周而复始，回圈计数。此手串为十八颗，上等沉香木制成，沉香珠大小相若，形材无异，虽素面无纹，但珠圆浆润，亦散发着淡淡幽香，“十八子”为十八颗佛珠的俗称，此中所谓“十八”指的是“十八界”，即六根、六尘、六识。手持沉香手串有明目清心之效用，夏日佩戴，亦可防暑去燥。18颗
