Mark Richard Myers (American, B. 1945) The Philadelphia Packet "Florida" Sailing from Liverpool, 1824 Signed and dated 1984 bottom left, watercolor on paper. 14 x 22 in. (35.6 x 55.9cm) PROVENANCE: Express Marine, Inc., Camden, New Jersey. note: The Florida was an early North Atlantic packet, built in New York in 1822 (the same year in which Philadelphia became the second American port to run a trans-Atlantic packet service). She became the inaugural ship of Spackman & Wilson's new line of Philadelphia packets in 1824, sailing on schedule between that port and Liverpool. In the following year she was bought by the famous Black Ball line and spent the remainder of her career running between New York and Liverpool or Antwerp.
