纸本立轴毕臣周，字笠渔。生于道光年间，周铁镇上人。自幼聪慧绝伦，悟性很高。长的相貌堂堂，谈吐妙趣横生。他自幼爱好绘画。且能深刻探索古人作画之精髓。对山水、花卉、翎毛、人物无不一一临摹。尤重写生工笔。年轻时，他的写真画就达到了惟妙惟肖的程度。于是声誉鹊起。咸丰初年，常州善画花卉的江春浦与他交往甚密。江浙两省不少达官显贵纷纷派人携书信银两前来周铁或迎其去作画，或求购作品。以至门庭若市，应接不暇。懋隆旧藏
