纸本立轴沈塘(1865-1921)字莲舫，别字雪庐，世居雪巷。沈塘幼时即好画，每于墙壁及几案上随物画形，光绪九年(1883)，弃举业，专事绘画。光绪十五年(1889)春，他受业于著名画家陆恢门下。三年后，他由吴大瀓荐入张之洞幕府，后参与陆恢总事的补绘承华事略图，深得吴大瀓、张之洞器重。光绪二十二年(1896)，纳资为湖北巡检。光绪二十七年(1901)捐候补知县，又于两湖总师范学堂执教图画，留楚十余年。民国3年(1914)，沈塘偕李平书游日本，日人争留为师，他谢归苏州。回苏后，他初与陆恢同居桃花坞，后移家旧学前大新巷，重理笔墨，四方以缣素求画者不绝于门。懋隆旧藏
