本品呈倭角长方形，形制精巧，可供系绳随身佩。外缘施 金彩描边，内施粉釉，其上饰粉彩缠枝莲纹，正面书有楷体斋戒二字，背面书以满文。斋戒牌是古人祭祀前斋戒时所佩之牌。清代沿袭明制实行斋戒，规定凡应行斋戒之人，不得无故不与斋，凡持斋不守戒规者，必受重罚，各宫托故不行斋戒，或私自饮用酒等不洁之物者，可削官去爵，为督查官行方便，持斋者均发给斋戒牌，这就使斋戒牌成为清宫中的日常用品之
