A Chinese enameled porcelain "Reversible Faces" medicine bottle underside dated to a Guiyou year, probably 1873 Of flattened rectangular form, inscribed to both sides "Beiping Deshoutang yaodian/Chuwen qushu dan, Yu zhi ping’an dan" in iron-red, with a coral stopper. H: 2 3/4 in. PROVENANCE: NOTE: for a similar bottle, see Robert Hall, "Serendipity, Chinese Snuff Bottles XVI", no. 84 (http://www.snuffbottle.com/Snuff_bottle_book_12_completeBook.pdf) where the inscription has been translated as: Beiping, The Hall of Virtue and Long Life, Medicine shop/Pills for the removal of disease and dispelling of heat, [Imperially] made pills for calm and ease.
