Pair of Rubbings from Tang Dynasty Steles, China, early 20th century, one titled datang sanzang shengjiao xu, inscribed by Emperor Tang Taizong, another titled Datang sanzang shengjiao xuji, by Emperor Tang Gaozong, both regarded as the Preface of Holy Doctrine of Great Tang Xuanzang, honoring monk Xuanzang who returned to China from India with Buddhist scriptures and classics, calligraphy by Chu Suiliang (596-685), ink on rice paper, both 59 x 38, title 11 x 14 in.
