Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the temple for circumcision, where the priest and two candle-bearers await them. The knife and a basin lie on the table. The two measuring jugs (mess cruet / altar cruet) do not belong to the rite of circumcision, but to the Christian sacrifice. They are here as a symbolic reference to the Eucharist.
