翡翠硬度极高，一般呈不透明或半透明，因颜色美如古代赤色羽毛的翡鸟和绿色羽毛的翠鸟而得名。此物翠色光泽温婉，为翡翠上品。 此佛头塔，色泽鲜艳，作为连缀佩饰，穿孔时把朝珠的两头各从对穿的孔的一头穿进，然后都从中间上部的孔中穿出，合二为一。 翠色鲜艳，成色好，水头足，碾琢精美，间有镂空。清代宫廷的朝珠佛珠，多以翡翠结珠、佛头塔，此翡翠佛头塔，质优工美，当为宫廷朝珠之用。
