A FINE AND LARGE CINNABAR LACQUER 'DRAGON AND FIGURE' STAND China, Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912). The fine lobed quatrefoil top braced on a pierced waist and splayed 'cloud'-shaped apron extending onto scrolling legs, incised with prunus blossoms and ruyi. The lobed base of conforming sections, lacquered in red and fine carvings, depicting a five-clawed dragon twisting above jagged rocks among leafy pomegranates and meander borders, all enclosed in a lobed panel reserved on a wan-diaper ground repeated on the apron and on the base. The apron decorated with figural scenes, immortals and flowers, the base depicting Laozi sitting on a bull. Condition: Substantial losses to the lacquer, especially on the lower panel. Partially restored. Provenance: German private collection.
