A CELADON JADE PENDANT DEPICTING A BOY CLIMBING A GIANT DOUBLE GOURD, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC China, late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic period (1912-1949). Carved as a boy clambering on a gigantic double gourd (hulu), the curved stem offering several opportunities for suspension as a pendant and bearing a large leaf as well as smaller double gourds. The hulu is an ancient symbol for health in China and is said to contain the elixir of life. The semi-translucent stone of a celadon tone with streaks and veins of russet as well as dark speckles. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear. Provenance: US private collection in California.
