A WHITE AGATE 'ELEPHANT AND A MAN' TALISMAN Himalayan region, 19th-20th century. Large talisman with simplistic depiction of a flattened elephant on short legs. Human - shaped head crowns the frontlet, the saddle is carved on the back of the animal. Stone with nice milky inclusions. Condition: Some bigger losses to the stone surface, one side is partly reglued, one elephant tusk is fractured. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
