A BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN 'GARDEN SCENE' BARBED-RIM DISH, KANGXI China, Kangxi period (1662-1722). The lobed sides rising from a short, tapered foot to a barbed rim, the exterior molded with lappets and painted with flowers and auspicious symbols, the interior with a central roundel enclosing a scene of a seated dignitary and his attendant in a fenced garden under a tree, encircled by alternating flowers and auspicious symbols as well as flowers growing from leafy stems below the rim, the recessed base with an apocryphal six-character Chenghua mark. Condition: The dish was broken into two pieces and put back together with hairlines and small touchups visible, drilled for wall mounting, minor fritting to rim and foot. Provenance: From an old family collection in Pressburg, Austrian Empire, Slovakia, and thence by descent to the present owner. Weight: 299 g Dimensions: Diameter 21.5 cm
