A PAIR OF FINE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN 'HATCHER CARGO' CUPS, TRANSITIONAL China, mid-17th century. The small cups each with deep rounded sides rising from a tall foot to an everted rim, the exterior boldly painted in underglaze blue with a seated figure in a barren landscape, a circumferential line below the rim and two at the foot, the recessed base with a single-character mark within a circle. Condition: Very good condition with old wear and minor firing irregularities. Provenance: Property of Captain Michael Hatcher. Christie's, June 1984 (auction label to base of one cup).
