A PAIR OF FINE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN 'HATCHER CARGO' CUPS, TRANSITIONAL China, mid-17th century. The small cups each with deep rounded sides rising from a tall foot to an everted rim, the exterior boldly painted in underglaze blue with a seated figure in a barren landscape, a circumferential line below the rim and two at the foot, the recessed base with a single-character mark within a circle. Condition: Very good condition with old wear and minor firing irregularities. Provenance: Property of Captain Michael Hatcher. Christie's, June 1984 (auction label to base of one cup). Slovak private collection, acquired by the grandfather of the present owner and thence by descent in the same family. Weight: 28.6 g and 29.7 g Dimensions: Diameter 6.6 cm (each)
