'LANDSCAPE', COPY AFTER NI ZAN (1301-1374) DATED 1937 Ink on paper. Finely painted with a small house nestled between clusters of trees by a lake or river, with towering cliffs above to the other side of the shore. With a silk brocade mounting and framed behind glass. Inscriptions: Upper right, signed 'Ni Zan', dated to the beginning of summer in the Year of Jiaxu, 'Moli Xi Yuzhen'. One seal, 'Jinhua'. Provenance: Collection of Friedrich Karp and thence by descent in the same family to the present owner. Friedrich Karp (d. 1981) was an Austrian music publisher, who lived in Hong Kong from the 1920s, working as a high-ranking employee of a local bank, before returning to Vienna in 1945. Condition: Very good condition with some wear, minor creases, foxing, minimal losses to background with associated old repairs, soiling.
