A KHMER SANDSTONE HEAD OF VISHNU, PRE RUP STYLE, LATER 10TH CENTURY Khmer Empire, Angkor period, 975-1000. Wearing an elaborate crown as well as a headband tied around the back of his head, the face with a calm expression with almond-shaped eyes, gently arched eyebrows, a broad nose, and full lips forming a subtle smile. With a modern associated metal base. Pre Rup is a Hindu temple at Angkor, Cambodia, built for the Khmer king Rajendravarman (reigned 944-968) and dedicated in 961 or early 962. Condition: Good condition commensurate with age, with extensive wear and losses. Provenance: Belgian private collection.
