A KHMER SANDSTONE VOTIVE PLAQUE OF BUDDHA Khmer Empire, Angkor period, 13th-14th century. Carved seated on a tiered pedestal, wearing a short loincloth around his waist, a crown surrounding his hair and surmounted by a conical ushnisha, the hands resting on his knees. All within an elaborate, lobed halo. Condition: Very good condition commensurate with age, extensive weathering, wear, and some losses. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
