A SILVER MEDICINE BOX DEPICTING MACCHANU Cambodia, 1900. The lidded silver box finely embossed and incised with floral decor. The lid depicting Macchanu (son of Hanuman and Suvannamaccha, queen of the mermaids) in high relief and with inset glass eyes. The base shows engraved characters. Condition: Overall very good condition with minor surface wear. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
