A FINE NECKLACE WITH EGYPTIAN CARNELIAN BEADS GIFTED TO SHEIKH ALI ABDEL RASSOUL The carnelians from Egypt, Roman period, 30 BC to 395 AD. The necklace consisting of 41 handmade facetted carnelian beads increasing in size towards the center as well as small turquoise separation beads from the same period and a modern 18k gold clasp. The translucent stones of a pale to deep red tone with natural dark inclusions. The carnelians were once gifted to Sheikh Ali Abdel Rassoul, once the head of the Abdel Rassoul family, one of the most successful Egyptian tomb robber families, and the former owner of the El Marsam Hotel in Luxor. With a modern associated velvet pouch. Condition: Very good condition with minor traces of age and wear. Provenance: Private collection of a German collector living in Southeast Asia.
