据《江西大志。陶书》记载，晚明崇祯年间，江西景德镇的陶瓷工匠发明了火煅法来提纯青料。对比起传统水选法提纯的青料，采用火煅法粹取的青料发色更纯更艳，“上者出火成翠毛色”。同时由于青料更加细腻，画出来的图案层次感更强，画面更加细腻传神。
