Pr Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Buff Pottery Horses each raising opposing forelegs, with elaborately painted saddle and saddle cloths, stabilized on wood bases. Height 18 1/2 inches (47 cm.). PROVENANCE: Erich Maria Remarque (1898-1970) author "All Quiet on the Western Front", gifted 1937-1940 to Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) and in her Park Avenue New York Apartment with stands and cases, (not included in German acquisition 1993 in Die Marlene Dietrich Collection GmbH, Munchen), to her Daughter Maria Riva and in her New York Home, probably offered by Dietrich's grandson and Executor of the Dietrich Collection at Sotheby's New York, "Important Chinese Art," 20 March, 2019, Lot 652. early provenance confirmed by Dietrich's Daughter, 1990's.
