De Uilenburg Along the Binnendieze (Den Bosch) Signed lower left Oil on canvas, 48.5 x 46.3 cm Provenance: - Galerie Mokum, Amsterdam - Private collection, the Netherlands Note: Compare the present lot with a smaller sized painting illustrated in: A. Grondman, Sal Meijer, Zo naïef nog niet, Meulenhof/Landshoff, 1986, p. 49, ill. 47. The Binnendieze is the collective name of a number of streams in the city centre of 's-Hertogenbosch. Because the city hardly had any room to expand in the past, a large part of the Binnendieze has been overflowed over time, for example with houses. The present painting shows one of the most memorable spots of The Binnendieze, with a view of the buildings along the Molenstraat which are built on an overhang of the brook Vughterstroom. While bobbing on a boat, all city noise is reduced to the peace of the Middle Ages. Please note: condition reports and additional photos are available upon request.
