取大红酸枝木攒制笔筒形，口、底均为整木挖制。筒身四面开光，嵌入竹板为饰。竹板留青雕刻“四君子”图，并附诗文。亦书亦画，古味盎然。笔筒四平八稳，形制规整，四面开光，一步一景，置于案台，亦为美景。 梅：梅雪争春不相让，余今擅自作评章。梅稍逊雪三分白，雪却输梅一段香。 兰：我爱幽兰异众芳，不将颜色媚春阳。西风寒露深林下，任是无人也自香。 竹：嫩箨香苞初出林，于陵论价重如金。皇都陆海应无数，忍剪凌云一寸心。 菊：踈枝密蕊晓霜封，此种秋客不可踪。自媿不如花意淡，一池墨汁尚嫌浓。
