Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Exceptionally rare 16/17thC Thai gold Buddha. Made by hammering a sheet of gold over a lay core in a repousse-like fashion. Unlike the almost all the other examples of this type you see from this period in Thailand, the sheet of gold used is relatively substantial and has weight to it. The sash is a pinker gold and is thicker, and seems to help support the integrity of the figure. Numerous losses and denting as seen in the photos. It is possible that this is a later replacement. Style is classic Ayuthaya. A great piece for a home altar. Collected by the previous owner almost 50 years ago in Thailand when special objects (authentic ones) were still available in the marketplace. Even then this was expensive. Size is 2 1/8 inches tall and 3 3/8 inches tall on its custom base.
