As a youngster, he would always be found with a pad pencil, sketching the rocky coast of Maine. As a young man, his subject matter revolved around the lobster industry, and he was highly sought after by lobster boat owners to paint portraits of their boats. He entered the army during the Vietnam War, became a medic, and with sketchpad in hand, produced hundreds of sketches of the atrocities of the war. An art publisher urged him to use these sketches to produce a book which was to be entitled Vietnam…art, it’s not. His wife convinced him to leave the war behind him and return to his first love of painting the beauty and serenity of seaports. He has since traveled the world, and he is still sought after and commissioned to do portraits of boats. He is forever grateful that he left his sketches of the Vietnam War in the past.
