China, possibly Shen Pei (active mid-18th century), the bird perched on a willow branch above two blossoming peonies, inscribed with date and place with three seals, including one at the bottom left corner, also inscribed on the back with title, artist's names including "Shen Pei" and pseudonym "Gu Ting," and date of remounting, ink and color on silk, matted in the Japanese style, painting 41 x 12 3/8 in.
Provenance: A private Massachusetts collection. Purchased by the owner from an art gallery in Kyoto, Oriental Art Sekisen|Shinosuke Mizutani, in the 1990s.
