China, 19th/20th century, woven with a front facing dragon with a flaming pearl, two side-facing dragons on the skirt panels, and a further five dragons on the shoulders and back in metallic thread, surrounded by Buddhist emblems and stylized clouds, above a border of crashing waves and flowers with lishui stripes below, lg. 53 in.
Provenance: Purchased by Ben L. Baker and Alice Smith Baker of Long Branch, New Jersey, while they established a mission school in the early 1900s in Swatow, China.
