A large-format figure of the saint standing in contrapposto. The figure carries no identifying attributes, but is traditionally regarded as a figure of Saint Joachim. The rendering of the hair, facial features, and characteristic drapery in this work are highly comparable to Michael Zürn's John the Baptist in Heiligkreuztal. Dimensions Height 104 cm (without plinth) Artist or Maker Michael Zürn the Elder, attributed to Medium Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. Some patches of presumably older polychromy, extensively overpainted, the gilding presumably reapplied. Condition Report The hands loosely attached, some fingers lost. Wear with minor losses. Mounted on a marbled wooden plinth. Literature By way of comparison, see: Claus Zoege von Manteuffel: Die Waldseer Bildhauer Zürn, Bad Waldsee 1998 (Katalog zur Ausstellung im Museum im Kornhaus, Bad Waldsee 18.04.-01.06.1998), p. 110. Provenance South German private collection. Notes VAT: Margin scheme
