This expressive and finely crafted pierced relief depicts the Apostle Andrew bound to a rough cross being crowned by an angel which hovers above him. The background is formed by schematically rendered clouds and rocky ground. Numerous works by Ignaz Hillebrand have survived ranging from 1719 to 1760, allowing this piece to be stylistically dated to around 1730–40. This lot contains materials which require a CITES licence for export outside of the EU contract countries. We would like to inform you that such licenses are usually not granted. Dimensions Height of main figure 20.5 cm. Height of entire relief 28.5 cm Artist or Maker Ignaz Hillebrand Medium Carved from several separate pieces Condition Report In good overall condition, very minor discolouration.
