宗喀巴大师（1357-1419），法名罗桑扎巴，藏传佛教格鲁派（即黄教）的创始人，西藏甘丹寺的创建者。其桃李天下，著述甚多，其流派影响深远。清代统治者信仰藏传佛教，因此多铸造有宗喀巴大师像。 此尊宗喀巴像头顶无帽冠，额际高广，面庞圆润，法相静谧。身着坎肩、僧裙，双手当胸结说法印，并各牵一枝莲花花茎，花茎沿手臂攀至双肩绽放，左肩花芯放置般若经书一部，右肩花芯竖立宝剑一柄，表明其为文殊菩萨的化身。此像身挺拔端庄，下承典型乾隆时期造像常见的双层仰覆莲台，莲瓣饱满，是上师造像中的佳作。
