|清初制砚沿袭晚明之风，大都光素无纹重材质，以本色见长，落落大方，此砚即具备这一时期的典型特征，石质细腻滋润，光洁致密，随形，以图自然天成之境界。卧可为砚，立可陈设。底面与侧面打磨光滑，后有收藏题款。原配天地红木盖。|许修直（1880－1954年），江苏无锡人，名卓然，后以字行，又字西溪，晚号百研室主，亦作百砚室，又号浮云轩。“许修直有砚癖，尝于厂肆见其藏砚拓本两大册，乃为散页新近装成者。多有许氏题识钤印，约七八十方，皆一时名砚。有纪晓岚、阮元、沈石友旧藏，又有陆包山刻玉溪生像砚，或有阿翠砚等已不记，说是本家散出者，当不诳。”
