A GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF A LAMA, 17TH-18TH CENTURY
Tibet. Heavily cast seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base, the right hand lowered in bhumisparsa mudra and the left held in dhyana mudra, dressed in a vest and billowing sanghati with neatly incised patterned hems, the folds gathered over the ankles, the serene face finely cold-painted with a meditative expression marked by heavy-lidded eyes, arched brows, and full lips. The base sealed, the seal plate inset with a gilt medallion, cast with a double-vajra in relief.
Provenance: From the collection of an artist and university professor in Vienna. The base with an old merchant label, ‘Ref. 540. CR$ […]’.
Condition: Good condition with some wear and casting flaws, minuscule nicks, light scratches, small dents, some rubbing to gilt, minor loss to pigment.
