This kind of accessory was introduced in China during the Tang dynasty (618-907) and then spread rapidly, with an infinite variety of models, in the following centuries. Many of these objects, comonly used in the middle and upper middle social classes, were produced in peripheral kilns of Northern China, linked to the so-called Chizhou production developed under the Tang and Song dynasties.
