A very fine and charming lacquered chinoiserie bracket clock, signed 'Breguet & Fils', 19thC, H 22,5 cmThe silver dial (no visible hallmarks but tested on silver purity) is surrounded by brass scrollwork and gilt decorated chinoiserie lacquer of birds among flowers.The inside mechanism signed 'Breguet & Fils' and numbered '1564'.Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823), born in Neuchâtel, then a Prussian principality, was a horologist who made many innovations in the course of a career in the watchmaking industry. In his lifetime he was considered the leading watchmaker of his day, and he built up a clientele that included many leading public figures and members of the European nobility.
