Early 20th Century; Original, frame 26.75” x 23”, canvas 21” x 17”, Important estate found, untouched example by British/Chilean artist. Oil on canvas is depicting a Santiago city street scene with pedestrians and early automobiles. Artist signed lower left. Displayed in original frame behind glass, heavily carved gold gilt reeded column, untouched and in original estate found condition. Alfredo Helsby was born into a family of photographers in 1862, in Chile. Alfredo studied painting under the British painter Thomas Somerscales at Colegio Mackay de Valparaiso. He later studied under Alfredo Valenzuela Puelma, In 1906, Alfredo spent a year traveling through Europe before he settled in Paris, where he studied under Jena-Paul Laurens. Along with Valenzuela Puelma, Alfredo exhibited his works in Paris, and London. In 1908, he returned to Chile. Alfredo Helsby died in 1933. Please view photos.
