He didn’t know that he would capture the world’s attention, making history while continuing to revolutionize watchmaking as thepany grew. From that moment on, many other innovations came and in 1884 he added another milestone on the horology highway with the creation of the first instrument to measure the micron and in four years, he would have received awards at the inaugural Universal Exhibition in London for his breakthrough work on a lever-winding mechanism. Atmos is one of those, in fact, it is the brand name of a mechanical torsion pendulum clock manufactured by Jaeger-LeCoultre in Switzerland which does not need to be wound manually. It gets the energy it needs to run from temperature and atmospheric pressure changes in the environment, and can run for years without human intervention. Invented by Jean-Léon Reutter in 1928, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock is an exceptional fusion of technical knowledge and utility, the present lot is an evolution made from 1999 in a limited edition of just 50 pieces with wedge-shaped and made from beveled glass panels, raised on three conical stainless steel feet, inset spirit level. The dial is totally white with printed baton indexes, inner minute ring, blue painted months disc with names painted in white, baton blue hands and aperture for the moon phases below with the lunar calendar, outer spiral scale calibrated for each year until the year 3000.
