Model no. 631. Finely decorated with a scene from Ovid s Metamorphoses, presumably Achilles mourning Patroklos. The pierced rim with a golden border entwined with a purple and yellow ribbon, flowers and laurel foliage. The many inspirations used as models for mythological depictions such as these, which were commissioned frequently by Frederick II, included a collection of copperplate engravings based on designs by Charles Eisen published in Paris in four illustrated volumes called "Les métamorphoses d Ovide en latin et en français". For the four-volume edition, which appeared in 1767, 1768, 1769, and 1771, Eisen made drawings for 58 full-page plates. They were engraved by Pierre-Charles Baquoy, Louis Binet, Joseph de Longueil, Nicolas de Launay, Jean Massard, Noël Le Mire, François Denis Née, Emmanuel-Jean-Népomucène De Ghendt, Louis-Joseph Masquelier, Louis Legrand, Nicolas Ponce, Jean-François Rousseau and Jean-Jacques Le Veau.来源: Provenance The Dr. Annedore Müller-Hofstede Collection.品相: Minor wear to the gilding.
