此件如意和田白玉玉质，首作云叶式，周围留边，浅浮雕展翼蝙蝠以及两条鲶鱼，寓意吉祥，年年有余，如意柄上浅浮雕寿桃纹，寓意吉祥长寿。此对如意选料精当，做工细腻，线条洗练顺畅，雕琢皆栩栩如生、细致入微，为典型清代中期宫廷玉雕风格，器柄末端有活环，用以穿系穗子。
如意源于印度，魏晋南北朝时随佛教传入中国为高雅的把玩陈设之物。民间因如意之名吉祥美好而倍加喜爱，士人也普遍将如意视为清雅之物，唐代卢纶《萧常侍瘿柏亭歌》有“重帘不动自飘香，似到瀛洲白玉堂。水精如意刁金色，云母屏风透掩光。”之句。尤其明清士大夫为显示风雅倜傥，常持握把玩如意，蔚为风潮，宫中亦难免俗。
